Famous Engagement Rings

Engagement rings are a symbol of love and commitment and have been for centuries. The most famous engagement rings have become iconic and are coveted the world over. From the Duchess of Windsor’s sapphire and diamond ring to the late Princess Diana’s, these rings have become modern-day heirlooms.

The most iconic engagement ring is arguably the one given to the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, by King Edward VIII on the 27th of October 1936. The dazzling 19.77-carat emerald and diamond ring was designed by Cartier and is worth an estimated £2 million today. The emerald is in a rectangular cut and is surrounded by a halo of diamonds set in a square frame, giving it a vintage and romantic.

The ring given to Lady Diana Spencer by Prince Charles is also a well-known engagement ring. The 12-carat sapphire in an oval cut, surrounded by a halo cluster of 14 sparkling diamonds, was given to Diana in 1981 and is estimated to be worth around £300,000 today. The center stone was a Ceylon sapphire, which is a magnificent class of sapphires from Sri Lanka, known for their intense and royal blue colour, and dazzling radiance.

Following Diana’s death in August 1997, the ring was inherited by Prince Harry, who offered it to his brother Prince William, prior to his engagement to Kate Middleton. Prince William proposed to Kate with Diana’s famous and beautiful sapphire ring in 2010, which is now hers.

Another famous engagement ring is the one given to Jennifer Lopez by Ben Affleck. The 6.1-carat pink diamond ring was designed by Harry Winston and is estimated to be worth around £2.2 million. The ring has an emerald cut diamond surrounded by two baguette diamonds set in a platinum band.

No matter what the engagement ring, it symbolizes the love and commitment between two people.
